St. Bonaventure Scholars Program

The St. Bonaventure Scholars Program consists of all Honors or AP-level courses, Dual Enrollment classes, college visits, guest speakers, field trips, and a senior year Capstone Project (academic research paper or 40-hour internship).

ST. BONAVENTURE FACULTY

 

 

DAYS OF DISCOVERY
St. Bonaventure Scholars will have the opportunity to experience learning outside the classroom through:

• Summer educational tours in Philadelpia, Washington DC, Annapolis and Baltimore.
• A summer service experience through the Franciscan Center and Little Portion Farm.
• College visits with other Scholars during sophomore and junior years.

PROGRAM INCENTIVES
St. Bonaventure Scholars have the opportunity to:

• Become a teacher’s aide during senior year.
• Receive college credits through the AP and Dual College Enrollment programs.
• Participate in lectures.discussions concerning career opportunities.
• Participate in annual team-building trips to an amusement park.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
Upon graduation, St. Bonaventure Scholars will:

• Be presented with a Scholar cord.
• Be recognized at Baccalaureate and Commencement.
• Received Latin honors on their diploma – Magna cum Laude (3.80 GPA or higher)

BECOMING A SCHOLAR
Eighth grade students applying for acceptance into Curley who meet the following criteria may be eligible to be St. Bonaventure Scholars:

• 90% or better on the High School Placement Test.
• Exemplary middle school academic performance.
• Successful St. Bonaventure Scholar interview
• Exemplary recommendations.

At the end of the freshman year, students who meet the following requirements may be eligible to become a Scholar:

• Have taken only Honors courses.
• Maintained a 3.80 cumulative GPA during the freshman year and passed a courses.
• Participated in at least 2 co-curricular activities

ACADEMIC GUIDELINES

• Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or higher (on a 4.0 scale.)
• Take at least 4 total Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment courses during junior and senior years.
• Participate in at least two co-curricular activities each year (clubs or sports).
• Complete a Capstone project (internship, research paper, etc.) during senior year and make a presentation to the Scholars and faculty.

 

 

 

WHO WAS ST. BONAVENTURE?

This distinctive program is named for the Franciscan Friar, St. Bonaventure (1221-1274), a medieval Scholastic philosopher and theologian and biographer of St. Francis of Assisi.  He also served as a Minister General of the Franciscan Friars and as a Cardinal Bishop of Albano, Italy. Named a Doctor of the Church, he is known as the Seraphic Doctor.
